When Coverage Takes Effect
Newly hired benefits eligible employees are eligible for coverage on the first of the month on or after 30 days of employment.
In addition, if you’re a benefits ineligible employee and you become benefits eligible, your coverage may take effect on the first of the month on or after 30 days subject to the eligibility rules in effect in your organization.
Default coverage
If you are newly eligible and do not enroll by the deadline provided, you will have no medical, dental or vision coverage for you or your covered dependents, if applicable. You will not be able to make any changes until open enrollment unless you experience a qualifying life event.
Qualifying Life Events
Elections made when you are newly eligible or during open enrollment may only be changed mid-year if you experience a Qualifying Life Event. Examples of qualifying life events are marriage, divorce, birth, changes to your dependent’s coverage or losing your current coverage. If you experience a life event, you must process the change within 31 days through our benefits portal at www.ynhhsbenefits.com. You will also be required to submit documentation confirming the reason for the change.
